What can I say about this wedding. Well let’s start at the beginning. I have personally known the groom Paul since he was about 3 years old. I grew up in the small town of Handforth in Cheshire and was friends with two of his older brothers Simon and Darren. Jemma had contacted me via Facebook and at this point I hadn’t realised it was Paul who’s going to be her groom. We met up at my studio in Stockport to have an informal chat about their plans for the big day. Imagine my surprise when Paul walked in and was 6ft tall, I hadn’t seen him for many years and he was only small then. I got to know them both personally and we immediately went from talking about the plans to discussing what times they were arriving etc. With the wedding photography booked all we had to do was wait for the day to arrive. Before they left I took some pictures in the Studio of their young family. The day arrived and started with myself arriving at the Hotel. The Pinewood On Wilmslow is a lovely hotel situated in Handforth and brings back a lot of memories for me. I hadn’t been to The Pinewood for a long time and I have to say the investment they have put into it is fabulous. I met Jemma in her room with her bridesmaids and Make up artist Emma from Face Up MUA.
I took some formal bridal prep photos whilst my second photographer and great friend Howard concentrated on the Groom and the other gents. The wedding ceremony was nearly flawless just one tiny hiccup from Paul on his lines which had the whole congregation in laughter, even the registrar joined in with the laughter. After the ceremony I took the bridal party outside to do some formal pictures before taking the newlyweds away from the their guests for an hour to shoot some of my signature pictures of them both. I cant believe how well behaved they were and what a joy to photograph ;-). After the pictures it was off to photograph the speeches, this is where it became a little emotional. Paul had a very close friend called Jamie. Paul and Jamie had grown up together and were inseparable in their younger years. Tragically Jamie had passed away before Paul and Jemma’s wedding. Mark Paul’s brother and best man spoke fondly about Paul and Jamie in his speech which left not a dry eye in the room. The Best Man’s Speech, Father of the Bride and Grooms speeches were great and full of memories for all to hear.
The evening reception was a full on party with lots of the usual drinking and dancing starting with the first dance. A great wedding for me, one that brought me back in touch with my hometown and lots of people I had not seen for a long time. Thanks Paul & Jemma for asking me to help photograph your perfect day. Paul x
